1. Job PurposeThe Aquarist is responsible for being part of a core team for the maintenance and husbandry of living exhibits and provides assistance with a range of activities associated with The National Aquarium. Aquarists are advanced fish keepers with knowledge of marine and freshwater aquariums.2. Nature & ScopeThe job holder will be responsible for the daily care of all the animals within the Aquarium3.? DimensionsEnsure that the highest standards of animals care are maintained across all exhibits.4. Principal Accountabilities? Performs daily monitoring and assessment of aquatic animals, their health, treatment and management to ensure the highest level of quality throughout the aquarium facility.? Diving as required on a day to day basis and perform maintenance and feedings as required.? Understands and follows husbandry manuals and exhibit record keeping.? Handle live animal shipments and acclimation processes.? Basic understanding of aquarium systems and daily upkeep.? Ensure that Health and Safety protocols are followed at all times.? Assists the senior aquarist teams in the development of new exhibits.? Daily monitor water quality and act appropriately to the needs of the collection.? Assist with collection of daily data for husbandry protocols.? Communicate to the public as needed.? Reports any husbandry concern to the Senior Aquarist.? Report to the Veterinarian any abnormalities regarding animal health.? Support and collaborate with Front of House personnel.? Ensures that animal encounters and feeding shows are performed as per schedule and at the highest standard.
