Anesthesia and Sedation Consultant - (21000222)DescriptionJob Summary:Provides Direction and coordinates the activities of Anesthesiology department. Ensures maintenance of highest level of professionalism in the department staff, to provide best possible anesthesia and sedation services commensurate with the joint commission standards.Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction and coordinates the activities of the Anesthesiology department to maintain proper professional conduct by the Anesthesia personnel and formulates administrative procedures to meet NMCRH, Khalifa city and Joint commission on Accreditation of Hospital standards.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of integrated and cost effective anesthesia and sedation services.
  • Formulates departmental policies & Procedures to ensure the maintenance of highest standards of anesthesia and sedation services.
  • Provides anesthesia and sedation with the full range of anesthetic agents, methods and techniques in accordance with accepted professional standards and Medical Organization policies.
  • Performs all management duties, either directly or by delegation to assigned service personnel.
  • Supervises and monitors the care of all patients requiring Anesthesia and sedation.
  • Participates in recruitment of new Anesthesia personnel.
  • Coordinates daily work operation, on-calls and vacation schedules of his staff to ensure smooth operation and manpower coverage of his service at all times.
  • Performs professional duties as an anesthesiologist and instructs or advises the colleagues as and when necessary.
  • Keeps informed as to current development in the field of anesthesiology and keeps the staff up to date on procedures through group discussions, lectures, and in-service training.
  • Collaborates with other department personnel in planning programs integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care.
  • Is responsible for the operation of approved curative-preventive program as related to his particular field.
  • Determines which Anesthesia and related services procedures are proper to undertake and when new techniques will be utilized.
  • Determines requirements and takes actions to ensure availability of special equipment, drugs and supplies.
  • Plans and maintains master work schedules necessary for performance of all division functions, including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday, weekend schedules, and emergencies.
  • Works with Medical Administrator and other Division Heads on related problems in the Department.
  • Provides for training of the services personnel by on-the-job instructions, demonstrating personally work necessary to train, and recommending in-service programs or other development activities as required.
  • Develops and maintains professional quality control programs and makes recommendations for improvement of such standards from time to time.
  • Directs orientation of new employee, application of company personnel policies in employment, conduct of employees, safety, and other personnel activities.
  • Handling grievances, administering warning and disciplinary actions where necessary in conformance with NMCRH-Abu Dhabi Policy.
  • Maintains effective communications with assigned personnel, other Specialists in the department and with the Heads of Surgical & Diagnostic Services.
  • Promptly informs personnel of pertinent policies, rules and ensures their implementation.
  • Develops and maintains cost standards for the division through guidance from Medical Director and in coordination with Administration by checking and eliminating excessive use of labor, materials and services.
  • Utilizes and monitors services of personnel from supporting services in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner
  • Contributes to Anesthesia department, and other hospital services by assisting in development of improved methods and job simplification where possible
  • Participates in discussions concerning development, revision, and implementation of existing procedures, policies and practices.
  • Contributes to the training and education of residents assigned to the department, in coordination with the Medical Director, personally and by assigning appropriate members of the department to this function.
  • Develops, in consultation with the Medical Director and Heads of Surgical & Medical Specialties, leadership within the department to assist in the day-today functioning of the Anesthesia and Sedation services.
  • Monitors Performance Appraisal review of his staff and reports annually to performance scores to the Medical Director annually and timely.
  • Supports good communication between professionals;
  • Jointly plans and develops policies; clinical guidelines; and related protocols, pathways, and other documents that guide the delivery of clinical services; oversees the quality of patient care.
  • Recommends space, medical technology, equipment, staffing, and other resources needed by the department or service and have a process in place to respond to shortages
  • Recommends criteria for selecting the departments or service?s professional staff and choose or recommend individuals who meet those criteria
  • Reviews the staffing plan of the department quarterly to ensure the staffing levels related to the workload do not compromise quality & patient safety.
  • Provides orientation and training for all staff of the duties and responsibilities for the department or service to which they are assigned
  • Identifies, in writing, the services to be provided by the department, and integrates or coordinates those services with the services of other departments
  • Improves quality and patient safety by participating in hospital wide improvement priorities and in monitoring and improving patient care specific to the department/service
  • Engages their staff in improvement activities that reflect the hospital wide priorities and address the clinical or nonclinical activities specific to their department or service
  • Selects and implements clinical practice guidelines, and related clinical pathways, and/or clinical protocols, to guide clinical care.
  • Promotes a culture of safety in the department /and across the hospital.
  • Chairs the cardiopulmonary resuscitation committee and other committees as assigned.
  • Comply with all OSH (Occupational safety and health )and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
