Technical Director- Building Design

Job Description

We are looking for a Technical Director- Building Design to be based in Abu Dhabi.The Technical Director will be responsible for the management of the complete building design bid and delivery process for selected project or clients. They will hold project financial performance responsibility in addition to technical delivery oversight, acting as the ?service delivery director?.The Technical Director is ultimately responsible for the technical and commercial performance of the project (and or group of projects with an identified client), and will be required to:

• Formulation of key relationships with client in liaison with the business development team
• Lead the formulation of proposals with the bid and win work team, technical practices and disciplines, and central commercial team.
• Develop and communicate the overall bid strategy and provide direction to practice and discipline leads.
• Formulate the project leadership team in conjunction with design and project management family leads.
• Acting as the ?point? person for clients during the bid and delivery phases.
• Be responsible for mobilisation of the design team once secured, and ?connect? the bid to delivery stages.
• Manage the ongoing client relationship.
• Provide technical oversight to the design and project management teams to ensure positive commercial and technical outcomes
• Drive repeat business with clients based on performance and relationships
• Feed into or be part of the key account management approach.
• Promote a collaborative environment and team culture
• Drive the sustainability and carbon neutral agenda through our design activities

The technical director will also be responsible for liaising and aligning the following

• Building Design Practices, with core practices being
  • Architectural / Design Management / Authority Approvals
  • /ICT&S
  • Structural, Civil & Geotechnical
  • Project Management
• Land Development Practice (where applicable)
  • Urban planning
  • Landscape
  • Infrastructure (Roads & Utilities)
  • Sustainability
• Design Project Management
• Digital Team (BIM/GIS)
• Project Controls, including central document control and scheduling
• Responsible for the effective implementation and oversight of best practice ways of working, digital innovation, and leadership involvement in project delivery to realize business goals and benefits
• Works with business unit leads, project directors and his functional leads to estimate staffing levels and develop workforce plans
• Understand the broader organization in which they operate, find ways to work within, and make recommendations on improving operations, processes and decision making
• Ability to lead scope assignment matrices across complex projects
• Oversee the coordination and alignment of services with external subconsultants, inclusive of existing network of contacts and relationships

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor?s degree Qualified; role-related (Architecture or Building Engineering such as or Structural), from an accredited institution
• Certification from relevant professional institution
• 5+ years of managing design projects as a business or project director in Abu Dhabi
• 10+ years of working in multidisciplinary design involving complete design delivery
• 15+ years? total experience working as part of a design delivery team
• Arabic speaking is a benefit but not essential.
• Candidate must be residing in Abu Dhabi
