SummaryProvides genetic counselling services for diverse genetic disorders and guidance to junior genetic counsellors in difficult genetic counselling cases through genetic result analysis, literature review, and communication with consultants, genetic labs and other relevant clinical services provides education and training in the field ofgenetic counselling. In addition to general counselling services, provides specialized genetic counselling as member of the Medical Genomics team. Pursues career of sub specialization in various fields of medical genomics that serves the vision of the Centre for Genomic Medicine.Essential Responsibilities and Duties1. Provides comprehensive information regarding the diagnosis, etiology, recurrence risk and available management options for a wide variety of genetic conditions.2. Discusses benefits and limitations of genetic testing options. Obtains informed consent from interested patients.3. Documents in patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patient, documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality.4. Develops a genetic assessment and counselling care plan in collaboration with the clinical geneticist, and the patient.5. Coordinates and supports the execution of research protocol as needed including recruitment and assessment of research subjects, provision of patient advice and support, and maintenance of research records.6. Provides written consultation summary letter to physicians, healthcare providers and patients as well as referral letters to consultative services. Develops standard counselling letter for various genetic disorders.7. Follows results of tests requested and reviews cases for further evaluation to assure the continuity of patient care.8. Establishes subspecialized services in genetic counselling (e.g. prenatal genetics, cancer genetics, pharmacogenomics, cardiovascular genetics, neurogenetics, premarital and preconception counselling, etc.).9. Participates actively in research activities related to genetic counselling.10. Participates heavily and Supervises training activities of genetic counselling students (diploma and master degree programs, etc.) and/or other health care professionals.11. Follows all Hospitals related Policies and Procedures.12. Participates in self and others education, training and development, as applicable.13. Performs other related duties as assigned.EducationPhD in Genomics-related fields after completing Master Degree in Genetic Counselling, or Masters Degree in Genetic Counselling is required.Experience RequiredGrade 11:One (1) year of related experience with PhD, or six (6) years including one (1) year of subspecialized genetic counselling clinical experience with Masters is required.Grade 12:Four (4) years of related experience including one (1) year of subspecialized genetic counselling clinical experience with PhD, or nine (9) years including four (4) years ofsubspecialized genetic counselling clinical experience with Masters degree is required.Other Requirements(Certificates) Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required. Certified in American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC), UK Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRB), or Australian Board of Genetic Counseling is preferred.
