The College of Engineering Technology invites applications for the position of construction engineering laboratory technician, with general skills and expertise in construction materials, concrete, and soil laboratory testing and specific knowledge of geomatics/surveying works.Your commitment:Reporting to the Department Head of Construction Engineering (CONE), the successful candidate will be responsible to contribute to the academic activities and research projects in the Construction Engineering Department. He/she will strengthen the department at the teaching and research levels by: 1) maintaining the CONE Lab facilities and equipment, under the supervision of the Department Head; 2) facilitating and preparing lab set-ups needed as part of research projects performed under the supervision of the CONE faculty members; 3) preparing labs and providing assistance for teaching CONE undergraduate lab courses; and 4) developing and enhancing the services that the CONE lab can provide to the industry.Expected duties:The successful candidate is expected to assist in CONE undergraduate lab courses and CONE programs development, and support research related to CONE lab operations. He/she shall instruct, supervise, and monitor students during laboratory sessions, and assist students in projects in undergraduate-related courses, relevant software applications, and research. He/she shall also assist in compiling ABET compliant course files for the laboratory courses taught. He/she shall set up surveying instruments and other testing machines, ensure their proper and continued calibration and proper functioning, and be responsible to contact concerned service providers for ensuring that any machines malfunctioning is resolved in the shortest time possible. He/she shall develop and supervise services provided through the CONE labs to the industry and prepare official certificate of testing for conducted experiments. He/she shall be responsible for controlling and keeping inventory of lab materials and supplies needed for laboratory sessions, research, and service to industry. He/she shall be responsible for promoting safe behaviors and safe work environment, by identifying and reporting near misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all the required PPE, and encouraging students and others to do the same. He/she shall also actively participate in the CET?s Lab Safety Committee. Finally, he/she shall perform other similar or related duties, as requested.
