Job Description

Purpose:The purpose of this role is to ensure effective financial and management accountingacross the organisation by:

  • the management and development of financial controls and systems within the Finance department and across the organisation
  • the preparation, development and analysis of management accounting and other financial and reporting information
  • the provision of high quality support and advice services to budget holders, managers, and other staff.
Main duties and responsibilitiesFinancial Controls1. Taking responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the accounting and controlinformation held in and reported from the organisation?s accounting systems2. Supporting the Director of Finance and Corporate Services in developing anddelivering the organisation?s financial and business strategy3. Continuous review of financial, control and management information systemsand procedures, implementing improvements across the organisation inconsultation with the Director of Finance and Corporate Services4. Updating, reviewing and documenting the organisation?s financial policies andprocedures5. Ensuring accuracy of financial and related information held outside thefinance systems, such as by HR, membership, or in programme budgetingsystems6. Improving the systems surrounding all aspects of the organisation?s budgets,forecasts and business planning7. Producing the quarterly management accounts and other reports as requiredfor senior management and the Board8. Preparing and analysing cashflow statements, income and expenditureaccounts and balance sheet accounts9. Assisting in the production of the draft year end accounts, supportingschedules and liaison with the auditors10. Planning projects exploring potential problems or opportunities, ensuring thatresources and staff are available to execute the project. Carrying out anynecessary research, analysing it and concluding on that information11. Support and advise staff on contractual and other ongoing arrangements withsuppliers.Advice and Support to Delivery teams:12. Assisting and supporting programme and project managers with thepreparation of financial reports for funding applications and reports tofunders. Compiling the financial information for inclusion in end of year grantclaims, final claims and returns, and external grant audits13. Developing and maintaining programme and project reporting andmanagement systems as required14. Providing financial management support for the organisation?s programmedelivery and consulting activities15. Supporting the Director of Finance and Corporate Services in the developmentof the organisation organisational and project budgets. Ensuring national andregional projects perform against budget by providing financial and monitoringreports, analyzing variances and addressing potential problems with budgetholders and managersManagement Responsibilities:16. Providing management direction and development support to the FinanceOfficer and responsibility for the performance management of the financeteam17. Providing advice, support and training on financial issues to the organisationstaff directly, or to members through the organisation programmes on aconsultancy basis18. General Staff Responsibilities
