Job Description

Thales in Egypt is part of our Middle East business that has 1,800 people across Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, KSA, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and UAE.Together We delivered fare collection and control and communication systems for the first metro line in Africa, Metro Line 1 in Cairo. Since then we have continued to bring growth and security and safety to the country by upgrading these transportation systems as well as providing solutions for customers in air traffic management, air defence and Navy.Job Summary

  • The Contract Manager will support the assigned project(s) and protect the Company?s interests by taking the initiative and contributing proactively to manage the contractual challenges, identifying contractual obligations, risks and opportunities.
  • In addition, she / he is responsible for analyzing and negotiating contracts and contract-related documents, coordinating/supporting internal processes and knowledge sharing in close cooperation with the project team.
Role & Responsibilities
  • Ensure understanding of key contractual aspects within the project team.
  • Ensure that contractual obligations are performed, properly documented and closely followed up, including drafting contractual correspondences;
  • Participate in the definition of Project objectives and the consequent strategies (variation orders, acceleration plan?);
  • Support project team in anticipating and managing any disagreement over contract scope (preparation/issuance of request for variation) and assessing the contractual impacts;
  • Liaise with and support the Project Team to ensure the project is performed safely and adequately in securing Thales rights in the project.
  • Communicate, and defend Thales position towards stakeholders about all contract-related matters.
  • Support the procurement team in the drafting of appropriate contractual documents ensuring that major risks are passed on to subcontractors/suppliers appropriately.
  • Prepare, submit, negotiatevariations/claims/counter-claims in a timely and effective manner.
  • Participate to the identification and the anticipation of Risks & Opportunities throughout contract performance ;
  • Participate in the Project reviews by emphasizing any major Risks and high Opportunities when required.
  • Develop and improve on other contracting processes as required.
  • Comply with THALES internal processes, tools and guidelines.
  • Provide adequate reporting as and when needed in a timely manner to the functional and management hierarchy.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills Requirement
  • Bachelor?s Degree in Engineering, Law, or other equivalent related field.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of legal terminology.
  • 7+ total work experience out of 4+ experience in domestic and international contracts & claims management.
  • Work experience in large complex construction projects with various stakeholders, preferably in rail business.
  • Work experience in working with public/governmental customers.
  • Experience of working preferably in Egypt and multinational companies.
  • Good knowledge of contract law and general standard contractual wording, experience of local legislation would be an advantage.
  • Experience of risk analysis and claims management in complex projects.
  • Very good communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in working with FIDIC contracts is a plus.
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic.
  • Excellent professional writing and analytical skills.
  • Capable of working under pressure; tenacious.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Being a team player.
